Crosstoberfest entry fee
Billy,
Why is there a different fee for Crosstoberfest? It seems that $35 is an exceptionally high amount for one day of racing. Moose Cross was $35 for two days and people received $5 off if they drove more than 100 miles. It just doesn't make sense if the rest of the Powerhouse series is $15 per race.
Thanks,
Ron
Why it costs $35
Ron,
Thanks for the question, this is Lee btw, regarding the price and why the event is higher then our fall cross series. Not sure if you have much experience with putting on events so if this is over simplifying please do not take it the wrong way. First we lowered the race amount $5 from last year as we have agreed to better terms with a few vendors helping to put the two day event on. As you know events don't happen in one day. We put in a few weeks of time dealing with the SV company, local vendors, band, gathering vollenteers to help, etc. We have to pay SV company for the use of their facility to ensure that all the racers, families, and fans have bathrooms, food, beer garden, etc. If the event costs were free then we could see a entry fees around $20. Last year we just broke even after the band and beer costs. We are not in this to make money--most race promoters are poor--but we are also not in this to lose money so we have to find a balance. With over 2,000 people attending the two day event last year we have enjoyed increased support from the community. More support means we can pull in more sponsors to help cover the costs so in the future we hope to lower the entry fee and still have some great awards to boot!
The reason that the fall cross series is only $15 is that we have beeen granted free use of the four locations so our setup, bathroom, and take down time is all that we are needing to cover. SV Company has been goood about working out new pricing with us but they are a business as well and will not staff the food court, beer garden, etc. unless we cover some fees. Hope that answered your questions and you can understand that we are not trying to get rick promoting this event.
We appriacte everyone heading up to help grow cross in our state and we work very hard to put on the best events possible, we are learning new things on every event. Thanks again for the question and we hope to see you on race day. Lee
Fee
Lee
Thanks for the explanation. I had heard my same question from several other people and decided to post it. I understand the costs, both time and dollar, of setting up a race. I do hope you will find it easier to lower the cost in the future. You may find that you will have more racers for both days at a lower price point.
I am planning to race. I really do enjoy the event.
Ron
Start times
Billy,
Are there going to be different start times for the fall cyclocross series? I see you posted 9:00 registration and 9:30 start. I and others travelling would like to come over to a few of these but would have to leave very early to get there.
Moved the times up to 10am
Moved the start times for the Fall Cross Series to 10am to help with travel time. Registration is at 9:30 and race times are 10am. Hope this helps. Lee
Thanks
Lee,
Thanks a lot for considering us. I will be there Sunday and as many as I can fit in. I know there are other folks interested and coming as well. See you sunday. Brian
Get up there!
I'd like to see more people making the trip up this year. Seems like the last couple years have brought fewer and fewer Treasure Valley racers. My family always has a great time, and the Shimano youth race is awesome for the little ones! $30 bucks is more expensive than other cx races in our area but if they do it up right (safe course, timely results, strong fields) then it is right in line with what you'd pay at other big events, and it really does have the feel of an event....I am looking forward to it!
