I posted a selection of my handlebar-mounted-camera footage of the Cat 4 race on youtube.

Unfortunately the dusty 'cross races are doing a number on my camera, so I don't think I'll be able to film anymore races.

Nice!
Great footage... thanks for posting. Curious what camera are you using?
is there more footage? I
is there more footage? I would love to see a full lap....anyway love it, thx
Great shots!
It was fun to show the family how crazy it looks when you're in the race...

The camera I'm using is a Kodak M1033 HD, it does 1280x720 res video, so it looks pretty good on the computer screen.
I forgot to clear the memory before the race (I was late and didn't have time to warm-up or preview the course either) so I only got the first lap and into the top of the grass on the second lap. I have gotten 30 min of racing before.
The black triangle in the lower right corner is the lens cover not opening all the way because of dust. If I can get it rehabilitated I'll bring it to Eagle Island this weekend, but it not, it was an expensive experiment.
Thanks
Thanks for the scoop. Maybe try wrapping in a layer of saran wrap? Just a thought... not sure how it would work. Now you've got me thinking about a newer fancy HD camera as your footage looks great! :)
I've got an older cam that plugs into a camcorder, but I have to use a camelback to haul the extra equipment. Here's the last 'cross race I recorded at Eagle Island back in 2006 if anybody needs a flashback...

Thanks for the video
It was so fun to see the video and then actually show my family video of my butt for a while. Thanks so much for posting! Like Ladd said, it is fun to show the family how crazy it is in the mix of it all.

The mount is made from a reflector mount, a 1/4 inch bolt, a couple of steel washers and a couple of neoprene washers. A guy at a race in Reno put a photo of my set up on his blog:

It works well on slow smooth courses, like grass sections and pavement, but it gets really shaky on faster and rough courses. If you watch some of my other videos posted on youtube you'll see how bad it can get on a fast, bumpy course in Utah. But this handlebar mount lets you use a pocket camera that you already have, and none of the helmet cameras have 1280x720 resolution. A water proof housing would be ideal to keep dust out of the camera.
Simple Really
Well that seems simple enough... I would be a little leary of damaging with a crash into the barriers or something, but it sure looks like it'd work out slick in most cases. Maybe some post processing image stabilization would work for the bumpy sections like iMovie '09 has.
